Dr. Dash Weerasinghe for Plano ISD – Place 6

Thank you for being here today. My name is Dr. Dash Weerasinghe, and I am running for a seat on the Plano Independent School District Board. I stand before you as a passionate advocate for education, community engagement, and the future of our children.

Our schools are the heart of our community. They shape the future leaders, innovators, and citizens of tomorrow. As a dedicated member of this community, I am committed to ensuring that every child in Plano receives the best possible education. When I say “every child”, I mean ALL children, in every school, honors students, and special education.

I purchased my first home in Plano in 1998 based on one and only one factor.  That is because Plano ISD was the best school district in Texas.  Both my sons went through kindergarten in Plano and graduated from Plano Senior.  They had a wonderful experience in Plano ISD.

When my sons attended Plano ISD, we were an “A-Rated” district. Today, Plano ISD is a low “B-Rated “ district, with some schools rated D and F. Our students and families deserve our best effort to turn that around. Young families who are moving to Collin county have many choices. Plano’s declining enrollment indicates that these families are choosing other options, but together we can make a difference. Let’s return Plano ISD to the A-Rated district that our students, staff, and families deserve.

I worked for 28 years in public education and 15 years of that in Plano ISD.  In Plano, I was responsible for school and district improvement and for reporting all school performance data.  I knew Plano ISD when we were the shining star of Texas and let’s work together to turn this district back to a shining star!
